CitySwift announces 50 additional jobs for Galway supported by Enterprise Ireland

CitySwift, the Galway-based transport data company transforming the operations and passenger experience of public transport, has announced 50 roles to be hired in Galway over the next year in addition to 15 existing roles being hired for. The job creation is being supported by Enterprise Ireland.

The announcement of 50 additional jobs comes shortly after CitySwift secured €2m in funding. The roles being hired will be across software, data science, and commercial roles including customer success, sales, and marketing. As part of the rapid growth, CitySwift will also be moving to a bigger headquarters in Galway City Centre.

Speaking on the expansion of CitySwift, Hildegarde Naughton, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism, and Sport, stated, “I am happy to be part of the announcement of over 50 roles for CitySwift in their Galway headquarters. Growth of this scale for a local company, especially during these times, is remarkable. CitySwift’s multiple solutions optimise public transportation for all - from the operators to the passengers, and highlight the importance of a strong, reliable public transport system.”

Founded in 2016 by Alan Farrelly and Brian O’Rourke, CitySwift is one of the only homegrown companies in Galway. Brian O’Rourke, Co-Founder and CEO stated,“We are incredibly proud to be one of the only homegrown companies in Galway. CitySwift is an Irish-founded scale-up that is continuing to grow at a rapid rate. Unblocking cities through public transport is a vital component of a city’s infrastructure, and it is critically important that the industry continues to innovate. We are excited to continue to invest in the best talent to fuel our expansion with the hiring of 50 new roles for our Galway headquarters and look forward to finding some of the most talented software, transport and commercial professionals in Galway and Ireland to come on board our journey”.

Jenny Melia, Divisional Manager, High Potential Start-Ups, Enterprise Ireland said,“We are very proud to have assisted CitySwift’s growth and are delighted at the positive news for the company, and for Galway, announced today. CitySwift is proof positive that Irish based start-up companies can scale rapidly and win important contracts throughout Europe. CitySwift’s technology will help deliver better public transport services to citizens across Europe, enhancing the public realm of cities and town. It’s a great example of how cutting-edge Irish technology is making a real difference to our quality of life.”

Created and supported by industry experts, CitySwift’s industry-leading data engine uses big data and machine learning to increase public transport network performance, service reliability and passenger satisfaction.

According to TomTom’s Traffic Index*, traffic congestion in Dublin has already returned to 90% of 2019 levels and this is set to increase further and possibly well-beyond pre-Covid congestion.

The latest addition to the platform, a passenger-facing bus capacity checker using AI predictions, works like Google Maps but with the added feature that passengers are able to see how busy their bus is going to be up to two weeks in advance of travelling. It generates dynamic predictions of bus loadings to inform passengers’ journey choices whilst capacities are restricted and as new travel patterns emerge. Already rolled out by major public transport operators across the UK, CitySwift is ramping up for expansion, with successful pilots already taking place in Europe and North America, bringing this technology to the public as cities begin to recover post-lock-down .

Winners of “Best Emerging Business” at the most recent Galway Chamber of Commerce Awards, CitySwift plans to continue its expansion by moving into new territories, including Germany and Portugal by early 2021.
